Hi, Robyn. You sound quite settled in and content. I know frieds are so needed and it was good yo spent the holidays with them. We are fine. G'pa had a head ache last week but he went three weeks in between so he was happy about that. We missed so much pool and gym time with the snow and flood and his headaches. Feels so good to be back in the water. How many pwople will you supervise in your new position? And are they all new or are some hold overs from before? Is there anything we can send you? Hope you have been "heallty" recently. You had such a bad time there for a while. You must be happy with the US electin. He was not our choice but we do hope he succeds as this country is in a lot of trouble, politically as well as financially. I just hope the local banks can withstand the bad economy. For years I felt so comfortable in our retirement but that is not the case any more. Too many bad deals on Wall Street for which no on is being held accountable. Crazy world. We are planning a little celebration for our 60th wedding anniversary, not the big splash of the 50th. We are going to have it early, too, on May 9th right here in Stillwaters' The Gathering Place. Will be small but fun I am sure if we can get people to come. Hope all goes well and we enjoy hearing what you are dong and how things are working out. Love you much. G'ma and G'pa Hall

Robyn,
I just read your travelogue of your BA trip. Thanks for sharing that on the internet, you did a great job! Your experiences are so similar to the way it was when I was in Paraguay. Sort of glad to hear things are still much the same. Perhaps I may return for a visit, as Hillary did.

I'm a RPCV - Paragauy '76-78'. Seems like yesterday, almost.

Best of luck. I know you're having a great adventure. Keep on posting your stories!
All the best,
Tom Kalb

Dear Robyn--I have not written lately as I just can't catch up with everything--I am getting slow in my old age, not that there is that much going on in our lives. Your Mother said you were staying a year in Paraguay! We will miss seeiing you!! I thought I could take six months but twelve is a bit much!! But I know you think you want to complete the work you started so we understand. Are you putting your medical aspirations on hold or abandoning them? There is much to be done in that field, too. We will see your parents the coming weekend for a picnic at Jay and Robin's. We go out to pick strawberries and we made sauerkraut and canned peaches last week. We hope to do some pears but fruit is so expensive! We miss our pear trees at 298!! That place has gone to pot as the couple divorced, he thought he had the barn and pasture rented but that fell through--realy don't know if he can stay there without some income. Not my problem but one hates to see your old place not taken care of. That is why we sold Pattee Place. I think the housing crunch has hit Stillwaters as there are 13 places for sale in here and have been on the market for months. It is expensive but there was a waiting list when we applied in 2005. They are advertising like mad--CNN, even. Poor people who want to sell and have moved to care centers still have to may a monthly grounds fee while waiting for a sale. Makes me wonder if we made a very wise choice. Will have to go as lunch may be in order. Hope all goes well--and American men are also to be admired. Love, G'ma Hall

Hi--We are glad to hear from you and to know that all is well. I am glad you have moved as I worried about you living alone. The fact that you will be having litting piglets to deal with is interesting. Are you still planning to eat one of the older ones? We always had pork when I was growing up, not beef. Nor lamb though my Dad raised lots of sheep--they were his pets! We just went to the local fair where Jay showed Joy (heifer) and a yearling bull. The heifer was Grand champion and the bull went 2nd in his class though he was a better bull. Jay has sold him to people with 14 cows so he will be a busy boy soon. G'pa is doing well as am I. We don't do much but eat, walk, swim, garden a tiny bit, sleep. I enjoy your letters and print them off for G'pa as he can't read fine print very well. We have appoint ments with dermatologist nest month--dark spots and moles but noting alarming. He sees his heart specialist next month also and I think they will put him back on another water pill as he seems to retain more fluid than I think he should. We have enjoyed the Olympics but they being in China makes it difficult to know what to tune in to see what you want to see. I tried to pick up some Chinese phrases but am not doing too well. It is a strange sounding language but somehow pretty. Do you hear from Chris? I hope he is safe and he assures me he is. When will you know if you will stay on an extra six months? Hope you come home, though. Love you, G'ma & G'pa Hall

!Que suerte! I don't know Tava'i, but I lived in Asuncion for a year as an AFS student in 1979. Just got back yesterday from my first trip back in 26 years - had to show the hubby and kids that I hadn't made up such a wonderful place as Paraguay!
Just found your blog when Googling chipa - and then read that you're a Beaverton native! My family & I have lived here since 1992! My niece and nephew are both BHS grads! Go BEAVS!
I look forward to reading more of your blog when I'm a bit more awake (jet lag and loneliness for Paraguay are kicking in again.)
Chau!
